Spellbinding Productions was originally called ZAAP Entertainment, with its first film entitled "The Battle At Fort Sumter." The founders of the company, Andrew Zeller and Alvin Pingol, made the film entirely by themselves. The film was made in 2001 when Andrew and Alvin were only in 8th grade and was shot on two HI-8 Video Cameras. It was edited using two VCR's and featured music and sound effects. The film was also shot in sepia to give it an "older" look. It was after making this film that Alvin and Andy decided to pursue both of their interests in filmmaking. Later they would go on to pursue interests in music, photography, and creative writing as well. The first film to use the Spellbinding Productions name was Fatal Game. The creation of the name is credited to Andrew Zeller. Prior to that, Alvin and Andrew had done some short films to hone their skills including the minute long 2:26, and a commercial for their high school. That summer they shot the film Andrew had spent a full year writing, which later became known as Lucid Dreamers. Lucid Dreamers was screened for 23 guests at the Film Arts Foundation in San Francisco on December 23rd, 2003. After that, a three disk DVD was created and distributed among friends. Alvin and Andy did not work together on another film until summer of 2004, for The War Within. Unfortunately, the film had to be put aside with many of the cast and crew members leaving for University. Alvin began to work on his own films and music, but to this day, he still makes brief appearances or important contributions (such as music) to Andrew's films.

In 2004, Andrew's extremely personal film, "Inside Out," won the best of it's category in the Experimental Film Section of the Facedance Film Festival, a competition for local High School filmmakers. Andrew graduated from high school in 2005 and was accepted into San Francisco State University and the University of British Columbia. He chose the latter, and continues to pursue his interests in filmmaking, creative writing, photography, philosophy, languages, music, and storytelling in Vancouver, Canada. He has since traveled to China, South Korea, and Japan, gaining much inspiration for his stories. With the contributions and support of old and new team members, artists, and friends, Andrew sees a bright future for Spellbinding Productions.
